Calling All Kids (And Their Parents) Ages 8 – 10!

Macys 5th Annual Spelling Bee
When: August 28, 2010 at 2:00pm
Where: Aventura Mall
From August 7th to September 12th Macy’s will be holding spelling bees at select stores throughout the country. The winner of each local spelling bee will receive a year of online learning from Kaplan Tutoring, a $150 Scholastic online gift card and a trip to New York City to compete in the finals at Macy’s Herald Square on Sunday, September 26, 2010. The grand prize winner will receive a $5,000 Kaplan Tutoring Scholarship and a $500 Scholastic online gift card.
This event is hosted by Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). RIF motivates children to read by working with them, their parents and community members to make reading a fun part of every day life. Last year RIF provided 4.4 million children with 15 million new books and literary resources. To learn more go to www.rif.org.

The City of Aventura’s Commitment To Going Green
The City of Aventura is currently in the process of becoming a Green Local Government, as certified by the Florida Green Builders Coalition (FGBC). The FGBC designates Green Cities and Counties for outstanding environmental planning. The program focuses on improving environmental performance through:
- waste reduction
- water conservation
- air quality improvements
- other criteria
Becoming a Green City is an opportunity to improve environmental sustainability by:
- improving existing programs
- starting new programs
- setting an example to the community

- Inventory is tightening and Days-On-Market is falling

The market has shown some evidence of slowing recently. Both Prices and Inventory levels are relatively unchanged in recent weeks. Watch the Market Action Index for changes as it can be a leading indicator of price changes.

Will I Get My Homebuyer Tax Credit?

Congress Passes Extensions – Homebuyer Tax Credit & Flood Insurance
Good news! On Wednesday the U.S. Senate approved a bill extending the closing deadline for home buyers trying to take advantage of the tax credit.
The Senate approved the bill that extends the closing deadline for eligible home purchase contracts. On Tuesday the U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill, and it now goes to President Obama for his signature. The deal will give home buyers with contracts signed by April 30, 2010 until September 30, 2010 to close on their purchases and still get the tax credit, which is $8,000.00 for first time home buyers and $6,500.00 for homeowners buying a new primary residence.
In addition, the U.S. Senate has passed the National Flood Insurance Program Extension Act of 2010 (H.R. 5569) an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program until September 30, 2010. This will allow transactions to move forward. The bill is retroactive and covers the lapse period from June 1, 2010 to the date of enactment of the extension.
