• participation from local veteran groups

News Release:  City of Aventura 4th of July Fireworks Show

City of Aventura will present it’s annual Independence Day fireworks celebration on Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:00pm.  The fireworks can be viewed from any location along Country Club Drive.

In the event of rain the fireworks will be on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 9:00pm.

City of Aventura 2011 Hurricane Preparedness Summit

The City of Aventura in association with The Continental Group and 610 WIOD News Talk Radio will host a 2011 Hurricane Preparedness Summit.  This event is open to Condominium Association Board Members, Property Managers and all residents of the City of Aventura.  Admission to this event is free.

The panel will discuss best practices in hurricane preparedness and focus on helping attendess create a realistic, functional plan that is critical for successful preparation, response and recovery.  Topics will include:

• steps for creating a personal hurricane plan
• how to protect your community, common areas and property
• how to prepare for an evacuation
• what to expect before, during and after a storm
• community training and preparedness for hi-rise condominiums if a hurricane strikes

Great American Bake Sale at Aventura Mall

The 7th annual Share Our Strength Great American Bake Sale will feature baking demonstrations, a cupcake decorating station for kids, raffles for prizes and a DJ.

Local bakeries, restaurants, markets and hotels will offer treats for $2 to $5. Tickets for all bake sale items will be on sale at the event for $1 each or $10 for 13 tickets, a baker’s dozen.

The event is co-chaired by Chef Allen Susser and Jennifer Behar of Jennifer’s Homemade. Participants include: Grand Lux Cafe,  Nordstrom Café Bistro, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Ocean Prime, Alisa’s Painted Bistro, Turnberry Ocean Colony, The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort and Spa, Chef Allen, Florida International University, Edda’s Cake Design, Hot Cookies, Cookies by Shar, Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne, Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Caramel Swirls, Chocolate 4 Charity, Forever Sweet Cakes By Design, Jennifer’s Homemade,  Joe’s Stone Crab, Nestle Waters and Whole Foods Market.

All proceeds from the event go to Share Our Strength who’s goal is to end childhood hunger in America.

City of Aventura to Provide Residents with Easy-to-Use Program that Can Help Save Money on Prescription Purchases

The City of Aventura will soon introduce a program that will provide its residents with a new tool that can provide some relief from the high cost of prescriptions.

The city is making free prescription drug discount cards available to city residents through a program sponsored by the National League of Cities (NLC). The discount cards offer average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.

The discount cards, which will be available in April, may be used by all residents of the City of Aventura and has no restrictions based on the resident’s age, income level, or existing health coverage. The discount card benefits not only those without insurance, but can also be used by underinsured residents to obtain prescriptions that are excluded from their health benefit plans.

The NLC card can be used when purchasing prescriptions at most pharmacies around the city, as well as at more than 60,000 participating retail pharmacies across the country.
